FAMILY SERVICES To meet our community’s basic needs, Family Services provides help with necessities such as food, clothing, healthcare and housing. July 08-June 09, the Family Services “Choice” Food Pantry helped 1143 households representing 2721 individuals compared to 1076 households in 2007-08. 161,574 meals were distributed. The Kinship Care Program helped 86 families access vital needs to help them raise their relative’s children (usually grandchildren). We served 6531 free meals to children in the Summer Lunch Program over this past summer at four sites with help from local church volunteers.
YOUTH SERVICES Operating out of Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, Kids Club is our after-school and summer youth program serving 63 children ages 5-12. Kids Club provides a safe haven with educational and social development activities during the critical after-school hours. Also, it helps kids improve their academic performance by linking them to tutoring programs, providing structured homework time, and offering a range of creative indoor and outdoor fun things to do. Our Reading Specialist works with youth to build on and improve their reading skills at Kids Club and at the Broad Meadows Blvd. Summer Lunch Site.
SENIOR SERVICES Our programs for seniors help them to remain healthy and active in their community. Transportation was arranged for getting to medical appointments and attending numerous social and cultural events. We also helped senior homeowners obtain 179 emergency and safety-related home repairs in 08-09. In 08-09 we provided 8,053 hours of Supportive Services for 363 of our senior neighbors with whom we keep in regular contact, an increase of 49 seniors over last year. We continued our monthly Senior Breakfast Club where seniors get great food, fellowship, blood pressure checks, flu shots, and help with Medicare forms as examples of the many tasks we help our seniors with. CRC is the leader in Senior Small Group Transportation services for Franklin County’s seniors getting to the grocery store and going on social outings.
