CRC Community Garden
There is a bit more edible green in Clintonville. Thanks to the Cornerstone Deli & Café, the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center will be much richer in fresh produce for their clients. The owner of Cornerstone Deli & Café, Hadi "Song" Tjiang, was happy to 'lend' the deli parking lot to the volunteers of CRC for use as an urban community garden and pleased that thye found a useful way to empty the land. The CRC volunteers were quick to clean up the 400 square feet of land for this years' plantings of beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and flowers. The project has involved scores of volunteers including: students from CRC Kids Club, high school and college students, residents and homeless neighbors and volunteers from many local organizations. "We hope everyone in the area will come by the Cornerstone Garden and weed whenever they find time." commented volunteer Jane Byrd.

All Produce harvested from the garden will benefit the CRC. The CRC also encourages all who plant their own garden to drop off any extra produce. Beth Stewart-Magee, Basic Needs Supervisor for the CRC, is excited to have the fresh vegetables. "Fresh produce is a nutritious addition to the non-perishable and frozen foods available to our neighbors in the CRC Choice Food Pantry." A greant from the Community Health Funders Collaborative enabled CRC Volunteers to create and/or support seven community gardens this summer in Clintonville.
The CRC and Cornerstone Deli & Café invites all area residents to stop by and see the garden as it grows along High Street.
