Youth Services – Kids Club

Kids Club mission statement:

The CRC Kids Club afterschool program provides a safe and nurturing environment for youth in grades K-5.

We offer homework assistance, tutoring with a reading specialist, individual reading time, and activities that foster youth’s development of appropriate social skills. During 2015, the CRC added some writing enrichment activities in partnership with the Thurber House thanks to support from the Columbus Foundation.

Kids Club program information:

The Kids Club afterschool program is offered at three locations for students in grades K-5.

Kids Club 1 is located at Clinton Heights Lutheran Church, directly across the street from Clinton Elementary School.

Kids Club 2 is located at Maple Grove UMC, 2 blocks west of Indian Springs Elementary.

Kids Club 3 is located at Columbus Mennonite Church 35 Oakland Park Ave.

Students do not have to attend either Clinton Elementary or Indian Springs Elementary to attend Kids Club. However, Kids Club does not provide transportation. Parents should call the Columbus City Schools transportation department to inquire if their child is eligible to ride a bus to either Clinton Elementary or Indian Springs Elementary.

Program hours are Mondays-Fridays 3:30 – 6:00 p.m. when Columbus City Schools is in session. Program hours during the summer are Mondays-Fridays 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Students enrolled in Kids Club must attend at least 80% of the time to maintain enrollment in the program. Parents must also commit to one hour of volunteer time per month during the school year and three hours of volunteer time per month during the summer months.

Current families that have met the attendance requirement and volunteer commitment will receive priority registration for the next program year.

Kids Club Sign-up Procedure:

Parents may call the Youth Services Director at any time to request information about the Kids Club afterschool and summer program.

The Kids Club program consistently remains full with a wait list. Parents may call the Youth Services Director at any time and ask to be put on the program wait list.

Contact information required for the wait list includes name of parent, name of child/children, phone number, and school the child/children attends. Download the waitlist form by clicking here.

Families remain on the wait list until they either request to be taken off of the list or are enrolled into the program.

To check the status of the wait list, families may call the Youth Services Coordinator at (614) 268-3539. If the Youth Service Coordinator does not return the family’s call with 48 hours, the family may contact the Associate Director.

Each year on July 15h (for the school year) and April 15 (for the summer), current Kids Club families who have completed their volunteer hours and who have attended the program at least 80% of the time are eligible to re-enroll in the program. Once all eligible Kids Club families are enrolled, the Youth Services Coordinator contacts the wait list to fill all remaining program slots.

The Youth Services Coordinator sets up individual appointment times to enroll new families and provide all necessary Kids Club paperwork.  In order to be officially enrolled in the program the family must turn in a completed application, health insurance card, proof of income, TANF form (if eligible), sliding fee scale payment, and attend a mandatory parent meeting to explain the program.

There is a high demand for the Kids Club program and a limited number of spaces. The wait list enrollment form found on the CRC website should be completed to confirm status on the wait list.

The completed form can be dropped off or mailed to the attention of the Youth Services Coordinator, Clintonville CRC 3222 North High St. Columbus, Ohio 43202. The wait list form can also be faxed to 614-268-5028 or emailed to crcyouthserv@clintonvillecrc.org The Youth Services Coordinator will contact families in order on the wait list as space becomes available.
